Nature of risk
While the project maintains existing bike lanes, the expansion reinforces a car-centric approach to urban mobility, which may increase long-term congestion rather than alleviate it. Expanding road capacity may lead to induced demand, where more lanes encourage more drivers, ultimately negating any short-term traffic relief.

What changed
Ontario's Transportation Minister Prabmeet Sarkaria's office confirmed that work would begin in October 2025 to add one traffic lane bck from Ressurection Road to Clissold Road, despite the ongoing court case of the Ford government's request to remove bike lanes entirely. This roughly 500-metre stretch will keep existing bike lanes as the Ontario Superior Court ruled in July 2025 that this removal is unconstitutional. The expansion will cost approximately $750,000.
